The Animal Welfare League at Coombabah has 45 kittens under 4 months old looking for families to love.
Brought in from external pounds, the Gold Coast City pound and surrendered to the shelter, the Animal Welfare League is calling on the community to help the cause by adopting a kitten.
Marketing Manager Brooke Whitney says the late summer and warmer weather has seen the numbers of incoming kittens rapidly increase in the past week, with numbers expected to climb.
“Cats can have 3 litters a year, can be pregnant by 5 months of age and breed about 10 times faster than humans,” she said.
“Compulsary desexing is the only chance we have of gaining some control and even decreasing the numbers of kittens surrendered to the shelter.”
“Until we have compulsary desexing we simply can’t keep up with rehoming all these cats when there are already so many thousands without homes,” she said.
If you would like to adopt a kitten you should come and visit the Animal Welfare league on Shelter Road, Coombabah or log on to: www.awlqld.com.au for more information.
