A report detailing the status of submissions to the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) for damage caused by last years’ floods was presented at today’s Ordinary Meeting.
One year since the Scenic Rim region was declared a natural disaster area, the estimated damage bill stands at approximately $50 million.
Council has submitted ten claims to the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) and to date has received funding approval for eight claims totaling $46.7 million.
Corporate and Community Services Committee Chairperson, Councillor Heather Wehl said that although the road to recovery has been longer than anticipated, Council was getting closer to getting the region back on track.

“Our region’s road and bridge network were devastated by last years’ flood event and Council has continued towards restoring the flood damaged road and bridge network,” Cr Wehl said.
“The restoration process has taken longer than anticipated due to new claim process and guidelines being developed, but I’m sure residents can appreciate that the QRA have been managing claims from a large number of councils across Queensland impacted by the natural disaster event."
“Residents will see ongoing progress made by Council to restore damaged roads and bridges."
“Council appreciates the community’s patience during this process, the care taken when driving and for understanding the temporary reduction in service levels.”
Detailed designs for restoration works including geotechnical testing, land survey, collection of traffic data and pavement restoration option are currently underway with approximately 40 percent complete.
Council anticipates tenders for most of the work packages will be called by the end of June 2012 with works progressively undertaken and the majority of works completed by mid 2013.
