The need for improved pedestrian and cycle paths throughout the Scenic Rim region has been addressed in the Footpaths and Bikeways Strategic Plan 2011-2015 presented at today’s Ordinary Meeting.
Community consultation will be conducted on the plan that outlines desired outcomes and actions to assist in developing an integrated and user friendly pedestrian and cycle network that supports a safe active environment and increased accessibility.
Corporate and Community Services Committee Chairperson, Councillor Heather Wehl said the plan reflects needs and priorities identified in the Scenic Rim Community Plan 2011-2026, Scenic Rim Regional Council Social and Sport and Recreation Plans 2010-2020 and Priority Infrastructure Plans.
“Council understands the importance of well connected communities through footpaths and bikeways and is committed to delivering infrastructure that service this need,” Cr Wehl said.
“The strategic plan covers the priority areas of user safety and personal security, education and encouragement, infrastructure, ancillary facilities, integrated transport programs and projects, integration with public transport, and land use planning.
“I encourage residents’ to take part in the community consultation process; this is your chance to provide input to the plan that will map the future of footpaths and bikeways in the Scenic Rim.”
The community can view the Footpaths and Bikeways Strategic Plan on Council’s website and are encouraged to submit feedback by Wednesday 29 February 2012.
