Entrants are asked to curl up with a book in their favourite reading location and send Council the photo for the chance to win great prizes, including a Kindle e-reader and an iPod shuffle.
Entrants will also have their photo turned into a poster to promote the national event in the region’s libraries.
Mayor John Brent said the competition was a great way to get library members reading in different locations throughout the Scenic Rim region.
“Reading is an important part of learning and this competition provides new inspiration to get back into reading or to take your book on an adventure,” Cr Brent said.
“Nearly half the Australian population struggles to meet basic demands of everyday life and work because of a lack of literacy skills – this is truly an amazing statistic.
“The National Year of Reading 2012 is about helping people to discover and rediscover the magic of books and encouraging Australians to become a nation of readers.
“While personally I have much mandatory reading, I wish I could find the time to read more for pleasure.”
Prizes for the National Year of Reading 2012 photography competition are sponsored by; Mitre 10 Boonah/Kalbar; St Bernard’s Hotel, Tamborine Mountain and Lake Moogerah Caravan Park.
Entries are open to all members of Scenic Rim Regional Council Libraries and must be received by 5pm Friday 17 February 2012.
