The Scenic Rim region will benefit from a range of grants approved today under the Environmental Grants program 2011/12.
The Environmental Grants Program aims to encourage and assist the community in managing the local environment for the benefit of the region.
Corporate and Community Services Chairperson, Cr Heather Wehl said the grants were a great way to engage the community and provide the means for them to contribute to protecting the environment.
“The program enables Council to effectively increase the capacity for the wider community to undertake on-ground environmental projects,” Cr Wehl said.
“The Community Plan that was also adopted today highlighted the community’s eagerness to protect the natural environment in the Scenic Rim, we are already working toward this shared goal through the Environment Grants program.

“Council has full confidence that these projects will work to better the environment, we recognise the importance of empowering environmental groups and residents to care for the land they live on.
“We were not able to give all groups the full funding requested in order to keep within the program budget, however we felt that it was worthwhile to give partial funds to all applicants to ensure all of these worthwhile projects could be supported.”
The 15 applicants will receive grant funds totalling $73,900 with an expected in-kind support of $318,000. Applications were assessed against criteria detailed in the Environmental Grant Program Guidelines.
A full list of grant recipients and allocated funding is attached.
