Following extensive community consultation the Scenic Rim Community Plan 2011-2026 has taken on its final community feedback.
Council today noted proposed amendments to the draft plan based on community input and agreed to a timeline for finalising the plan in November.
Chair of the Corporate and Community Services Committee, Cr Heather Wehl, said consultation indicates that the draft plan provides an accurate representation of the community’s aspirations for the future.
“The community is generally supportive of the Draft Community Plan, its themes and priorities,” Cr Wehl said.
“Given recent topical issues there has been an emphasis on concerns about potential coal mining and coal seam gas extraction.
“The inclusion of coal seam gas and mining is relevant due to the currency of these issues, for this reason Council feels that it is appropriate to amend the plan to clearly reflect the community’s views and Council’s defined position about these activities.”
Council endorsed a Draft Scenic Rim Community Plan in August 2011 and invited further community feedback, a small number of suggested improvements were received and many of these will be incorporated into the final plan.
Community consultation on the draft plan closed on Friday 14 October 2011, amendments went to Council in today’s ordinary meeting and the final plan is expected to be adopted at the ordinary meeting in November.
“The Community Plan will be a shared vision for our community to work towards, we thank all residents who contributed to this plan,” Cr Dave Cockburn said.
The plan will set out a vision for the future by providing outcomes and priorities for the region over the next 15 years. Council must adopt a community plan by 1 December 2011.
