Scenic Rim Council is about to start a new phase of the Bitumen Road Reseal Program as preparation works get underway in Kerry and Christmas Creek.
The $2.5 million program demonstrates continued commitment to core infrastructure, it’s an essential part of Council’s capital works program that will maximise the life of Council’s sealed road network.
Reseals have already been completed around Kooralbyn and Roadvale, upcoming reseals and asphalt works will take place in Boonah, Beaudesert, Mt Alford and Tamborine Mountain.

Mayor of Scenic Rim Regional Council, Cr John Brent |
Mayor of Scenic Rim Regional Council, Cr John Brent, said the program was an important measure to ensure road pavements achieve greater life span.
“As we witnessed last year road saturation and water damage can cause a huge damage bill, whilst those were extreme circumstances, this program will help to waterproof the underlying pavement material and protect our roads from deteriorating prematurely,” said Cr Brent.
“Often you’ll see road reseals when the pavement apparently looks in reasonable condition; Council is ensuring we are on the front foot and maintaining roads before they start to deteriorate, saving time and maintenance costs in the long run."
“The program is just one way that we are improving infrastructure across the region, this year’s increased funding toward the program is a part of a massive $18.5 million commitment to our roads and bridges.”
Council’s sealed road network is around 948km long; the $2.5 million 2011/12 funding will be spent on preparing and resealing approximately 43km of roads across the region. Bitumen seals can last on average 12 years before requiring another reseal.
The program commenced in July 2011 with a private contractor recently engaged to undertake the bitumen spraying component of the works.
Council thanks residents for their patience during road works and reminds motorists to observe traffic advisory signage and directions from Traffic Control Officers.
