Residents of the Scenic Rim can now stay updated with weather warnings and natural disaster information through the social networking tool, Twitter.
The Scenic Rim Regional Council started the account to provide information that may be missed by the wider media.

Scenic Rim Mayor John Brent said while people should still follow media reports and stay in touch with relevant state authorities for information, social media helps Council assist residents on a more local level.
“The rural nature of the Scenic Rim exposes us to issues like flooding, bushfires and road closures and we want to use every means possible of communicating information,” he said.
The account is overseen by Council’s Director of Corporate Services Mark Griffioen, who is also responsible for disaster management.
“I’d encourage everyone who has access to Twitter to follow the new disaster management account, especially at this time as we head into storm season,” Mr Griffioen said.
The twitter account to follow is @SRRCOUNCILEOC.
