Dear Editor
We have some brilliant artists here on Mt. Tamborine currently exhibiting their creations of 'Fertile Chaos' at Gallery Works opposite the showground. This elegant little Queenslander-style Gallery is run by Richard Roper and Louise his wife. The three artists displaying some magnificent pieces are Mike Taylor, Monique Quarantini and Richard Roper.
Mike draws from his vast experience as a figurative sculptor to produce his unique impasto etchings with subtle colours in chaotic relationships. It becomes a challenge of discovery to trace the beautiful, simple lines and his skills run parallel to his creativity. It's hard to move on to the next artwork. Mike is a true artist who continually experiments with new materials in his exciting studios where his industrious nature and expertise come to the fore.
Monique Quarantini has realised her potential as a figurative artist on both ceramics and canvas. She has harnessed her her talents on this refreshing display of black and white chaotic line and form. I have never seen such beautiful and exotic drawings and indeed watching her meander through lines as she draws, is as if she is randomly tracing around the actual bodies of her subjects. It's like a dance and celebration of life.
Richard's watercolours are in total contrast to the other artists with their layered use of colour, browns, blacks and reds. The paintings are drawn very much from his scientific background, knowledge of mythology, research and technical background. The images are strong, have enormous appeal and fully display his whimsical humour.
It was for me, a fascinating and outstanding exhibition that will long be remembered.
