General Planting
Plant Gladioli bulbs for a summer show. Divide large clumps of daffodils and jonquils when they have finished flowering and replant, fertilize and water in well.
Keep leaves until they yellow, so that all goodness goes back into the bulbs.
Plant Petunias and other colourful seedlings that are available now at nurseries for a wonderful spring/summer show.
Cannas', gingers and Gerbera can be lifted, divided and replanted this month.
Bare rooted trees and shrubs can still be planted, but get cracking!
The Veggie Patch
Fertilise citrus with NPK fertiliser. Feeding now will help with a good flowering a crop next year.
There are plenty of new veggie seedlings in the nurseries now, so prepare the beds and get planting.

It's a perfect time for spinach and onion seedlings. It's still time to plant strawberry plants now. There are plenty in the stores.
Pruning
If you haven't pruned your roses because of frosts, now is the time.
Spray with copper oxychloride to limit fungal p
roblems, apply rose fertiliser and mulch.
Cut Dahlia trees to ground level and use the cuttings to propagate new plants.
Cut back Salvias, Sedum and other herbaceous perennials that have died back over winter to encourage new growth in spring.

Prune back Poinsettias after flowering. Tip prune over spring and summer.
Prune Bougainvillea to shape.
General Care
Apply slow-release lawn fertiliser as the weather warms.
If you have a shortage of water, there are some types that do not require watering in. Even though the weather is cold, don't forget to keep the watering up.
Mulch, mulch, mulch. Keep warm and happy gardening!
