It would seem our “It's about me, I am running for Mayor” (December 2010), Mayor, John Brent has decided to “abandon ship”. Its now “cando2” – (good name for a soft drink, full of effervescence but very little substance)!
What a circus!
Meanwhile the good ship “Scenic Rim” continues to flounder on its merry way without true leadership or direction and a hopeful 1st mate waiting on the bridge wing for an opportunity to steer the ship. He, the 1st Mate, has sworn allegiance in the hope his Captain will let him have a go at “running the ship”. 
Arguably, the worst Captain of the ship “Scenic Rim”, now is wanting to become Vice Admiral of the Fleet – what a joke.!
Wait until the Beaudesert electorate find out how badly he has performed since Captain of the amalgamation of two “battle groups”.
However, keep a lookout in the “crows nest” alert for the arrival of the Armada forming in the mist on the horizon waiting to pounce with a growing number of defectors.
The Queensland Party may yet provide the best alternative at the next State election. That will not however, solve the problems of the good ship “Scenic Rim”.
In the meantime we navvies beg our Captain to get on with the next rum ration, and under no circumstances allow the 1st mate to take the ‘wheel”. When we are “on the rocks” as a result of such an endeavor, many of us will be left to drown and mourn the loss of the good ship “Scenic Rim”.
We need a good Captain to lead us onward with fair winds and good trade for our endeavors. The ships crew, meanwhile, are almost at the point of mutiny. A very good prospect at this time is one of all officers, including the Captain, being thrown overboard, with the exception of one.
Our Captain in the meantime, is content to remain on board in the interim, run his ship and yet still parade his credentials for Vice Admiral at the expense of the crew. The “crew” in this instance the rate payer.
This Captain should stow his hammock, pack his rucksack, head off down the gangplank with some dignity, give a quick salute and retire to the old “mariners” home.
God forbid he is even considered by “Admiralty” for the position of Vice Admiral. With his history of the Captaining of the “Scenic Rim”, that could result in the sinking of the entire fleet.
