Scenic Rim Council today endorsed the appointment of Councillor Kathy Bensted as a representative of the Australian Local Government Women’s Association (ALGWA).
During a recent Annual General Meeting of the Association in Melbourne, Councillor Bensted was appointed to the position of Vice-President.

Corporate and Community Services Committee Chairperson, Councillor Heather Wehl said it was good to have a fellow councillor representing Council and women through the Association.
“Council congratulates Councillor Bensted on her appointment as Vice-President and hopes that her experience with the association will benefit Council and encourage more women to take an interest in local government.”
The Australian Local Government Women’s Association is the peak body representing women’s interests in local government in Australia and aims to:
- Assist in furthering women’s knowledge and understandings of the functions of local government
- Encourage women to participate in local government
- Encourage women to make a career from local government
- Protect the interests and rights of women in local government
- Take action in relation to any subject or activity affecting local government and local government legislation
- Act in an advisory capacity to intending women candidates for local government elections
Councillor Kathy Bensted is also President of the Australian Local Government Women’s Association, Queensland Branch.
