Scenic Rim Council will offer an amnesty on all overdue fees at the region’s libraries as a goodwill gesture from December 2011 until the end of January 2012.
The amnesty is an effort to raise the profile of libraries and encourage borrowers to utilise the services, particularly over the Christmas holiday.

The amnesty does not include fees incurred through lost or damaged items Corporate and Community Services Committee Chairperson, Councillor Heather Wehl said the amnesty allows borrowers with late fees to continue to use the library’s services.
“Council’s libraries offer a great service to the community and the amnesty is a way of ensuring people can get back into borrowing even if they have overdue fees,” Cr Wehl said.
“We’re eager to get our books back and circulating to other borrowers so our members needn’t be worried about outstanding fees during December and January.
“The Christmas holiday period is a great time to relax with a good book and I encourage everyone to visit their local library, borrow a few books, magazines or DVDs and find out what’s new.”
In return for this offer, Council is requesting people donate a non-perishable food product, item of clothing or toy at their library for Council to donate to a local charity.
Council offices and libraries will be closed from Saturday 24 December 2011 to Monday 2 January 2012 and will reopen Tuesday 3 January 2012.
