Preparations for the 2012 Australia Day Awards and Citizenship ceremony are underway with Council today endorsing the committee.
The Australia Day Committee for 2012 consists of Mayor John Brent, Councillor Richard Adams, Councillor Kathy Bensted, Acting Manager Community and Culture, and Coordinator Community Development.
Corporate and Community Service Committee Chairperson, Councillor Heather Wehl said it was a great honour to be on the Australia Day committee.
“I was on last year’s committee so I understand the important role of the committee members in assessing all nominations,” Cr Wehl said.
“The Australia Day Awards recognise the significant contributions that individuals or groups make to the Scenic Rim community.
“It’s not too late to nominate that special someone who goes the extra mile for their community, and I would encourage everyone to nominate someone who deserves to be recognised for the hard work that they do.”
There are a number of categories that you can nominate someone for:
- Community Event of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Citizen of the Year
- Senior Citizen of the Year
- Cultural Awards
- Sports Awards
Scenic Rim Regional Council will recognise the achievements and community contributions of the nominees and finalists at the annual Australia Day Award Presentations in January 2012.
Nominations close 18 November, forms and further information is available on Council’s website at: www.scenicrim.qld.gov.au/australia-day-2012
