Hello Readers,
Welcome to my new weekly column in the Tamborine Mountain Daily Star - online & ontime!. Each week I will be bringing you information on what is happening around South East Qld, covering the latest social events, movies and gossip.
I have been living in Mt Tambourine now for around 20 years where I raised my two children. I consider it the best place in the world. Now days I do travel a lot more and get to go and see a lot of different things, specifically in the arts.
Last week the Australian Movie Convention came to the Gold Coast at Jupiter's Casino. Other than catching up on a ton of upcoming international releases, I had the exciting opportunity to attend two red carpet premieres, the first being the adaptation of John Marsden's classic Australian novel Tomorrow When The War Began, released this week. The verdict? With good direction and a strong cast of fresh faced young performers, the film was well received.
Rising stars Phoebe Tonkin and Lincoln Lewis were in attendance. Lewis, son of NRL legend Wally Lewis, making his feature film debut, hinted at two possible sequels.
In conjunction with the convention was the premiere of The Other Guys at Robina Events Cinema on the Gold Coast. What made the premiere extra special was the arrival of the film’s stars Will Farrell and Mark Wahlberg. The boys made their grand entrance in a police car, with Farrell in the driver’s seat. He gave fans a thrill running along the barricades where they eagerly awaited autographs.
I got to speak to both actors who seemed thrilled by Australia. Wahlberg says he would like to come back with his family, while Farrell said he would consider buying property in Oz. The Other Guys teams Wahlberg and Farrell together as odd couple cops. It's a silly film, but it's hard not to love it.
You will notice that there is a Australian band back in the 70's Little River Band have one of their songs played in a funny part of the film and i did ask him on this in my interview with him.
For lovers of the musical and ABBA fans especially, you cannot miss the 10th anniversary run of Mamma Mia at Qpac in Brisbane. The opening night of the much loved musical provided one of the best after parties, allowing the cast to kick up their heels in celebration of the long time success of one world’s biggest stage musicals.
Mamma Mia runs until the 19th of September. Tickets are selling fast! So get your ABBA gear on for an exhilarating night at the theatre.
See you next Tuesday again and hope to have a lot more exciting things to tell you about and please check out the interviews with the Red carpet premiers by going on to the link here.
