The Gold Coast Indie Film & TV Network will open this year on March 21st with sheer excitement to announce a very special guest who has contributed much to the TV and Film industry.
She is seen as our very own Betty White and she is none other than the amazing Hazel Phillips.
This is going to be a great opening where we can get up close and personal with Miss Phillips and find out how she started her career and what she is doing now - she is certainly not slowing down.
Hazel Phillips has appeared on television since its inception. Her many credits include the original Beauty and the Beast and The Mavis Bramston Show.
Her own talk show, Girl Talk, was the first midday show on television and ran daily for four years making her the most popular female in the country, during which time she won Gold and Bronze Logies.
Since then, she has appeared in every branch of the media – TV, films, theatre, cabaret, radio and journalism.
Hazel has written, starred and appeared in three musicals of her own, as well as thirty other musicals and several movies.
In the year 2000 she wrote a one-woman show that ran for two hours, tracing the life and times of Marilyn Monroe, entitled Marilyn and Me, which she performed in numerous venues.
She has appeared in several plays for Queensland Theatre Company, including leads in The Circle, Pride and Prejudice, Shakespeare’s Henry V and The Merry Wives of Windsor directed by Geoffrey Rush.
Hazel was awarded the OAM in the 2005 Queen’s Birthday Honours for her contribution to television and the entertainment industry. She continues to entertain. In 2008 Hazel Phillips wrote a autobiography Black River Bright Star.
It will be a pleasure to have her on board and have a Q&A on her life.
To open the night we have a very young talent, Liz Condor, who is a semi finalist in X-Factor (Australia). Last year Liz became the ambassador of the Bravehearts organisation.
She is a very inspiring singer who has made some impressive inroads into the music industry already for her age. No doubt she has a great future ahead of her.
Liz made her mark in major competitions such as the X-Factor (Australia), OzMuZik 2011, My Camp Rock 2 - The Final Jam with Disney Australian Channel in 2010, World Championships of the Performing Arts 2010 held at Los Angeles (Hollywood), and finalist in 2009 for winning the Readers Choice Award in the Sunday Mail Christmas Star Competition.
At present, Liz is working with Filipino/Australian song-writer and producer Phillip (Butch) Monserrat, a multi-award winning song-writer who is well-respected in the Philippine music industry.
Phillip produced Liz's first single Indestructible which has gone on to become the signature song for Bravehearts Inc, Australia's leading advocate against sexual abuse of children.
GCIFTN is delighted to have Liz open the night. We will be showing a clip from her recently made film and listen to one of her own songs, Indestructible which was especially written for Bravehearts.
