On Sunday April 29th at 10.30am, artist Kerry Argent will be launching her book Finola’s Fabulous Shoe Gallery Exhibition.
Original watercolour illustrations by Kerry Argent from The Fabulous Finola Fox, Penguin Books 2012 will be on display as well as a display of sculpture by Tamborine Mountain State School Students and Shoe Inspired jewellery by the Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Queensland.
Written by acclaimed writer Carmel Bird (Writing the Story of Your Life; Child of the Twilight) and illustrated by one of Australia’s most celebrated illustrators, Kerry Argent, The Fabulous Finola Fox is a story about a Melbourne suburban fox with a great fondness for shoes – any kind: sneakers, lacy high heels and thongs are all housed in her cellar den.
The book was inspired by a newspaper clipping that described the existing myth that real foxes are sleeping in the alleys of inner-city Melbourne and collecting lost shoes from people who dance the night away!
Further research shows confirms this practice is not limited to Melbourne, with reports of shoe thieving foxes from around the world. In fact occurrence is so common that researchers have dubbed the strange behaviour “Imelda Syndrome”.
Kerry Argent's first picture book was One Woolly Wombat which began as an art-school project 30 years ago and has become a classic international best-seller.
After spending 8 years as Art Director for Omnibus Books, Kerry is now a freelance designer and book illustrator. Her other works include Sebastian Lives in a Hat, written by Thelma Catterwell, Derek the Dinosaur by Mary Blackwood and Wombat Divine & Giraffe in a Bath by Mem Fox. Originally from Adelaide, Kerry now lives in Brisbane.
The vivid watercolours from The Fabulous Finola the Fox will be on display for the duration of the exhibition together with shoe inspired artwork by students from Tamborine Mountain State High School and jewellery by members of the Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group of Queensland.
On Sunday April 29th, Penguin Books Executive Publisher Lisa Riley and Senior Designer Karen Scott will join Kerry Argent for an informative discussion about illustrating and publishing, followed by a book reading, drawing demonstration and fun activities for children.
