The latest exhibition at Gallery Works is a collection of paintings, drawings, etchings and fine art ceramics by five local artists who live in the Scenic Rim and Gold Coast region:
- Melissa Bates has produced a range of “conceptual cuts” on board that are reminiscent of cubism but totally contemporary in style.
- Sonja Jack’s paintings and drawings are predominantly abstract with a stunning mastery of colour, inspired by Miro and indigenous art.
- Richard Roper’s watercolour and ink paintings use earthy colours to depict semi-abstracted biomorphic figures.
- Monique Quarantini’s drawings and porcelain ceramics have a unique flowing style that has been compared to the work of Brett Whitely.
- Mike Taylor’s etchings show his mastery of drawing the human form after years of creating internationally acclaimed figurative sculptures.
Gallery Works is open Thursday to Monday from 11am to 4pm with a break between Christmas and New Year’s day.
Gallery Works also provides studio facilities and professional guidance for drawing, printmaking and sculpture. Artists can use the studio and gallery space to brainstorm ideas with other artists and liase with visitors to the Gallery.
Regular drawing, printmaking, sculpture classes and workshops for both beginners and experienced artists wanting to extend their artistic skills are also held at the Gallery.
